Anne-Pie Teeuwen, Roel Teeuwen, Daniel Vis

Tell us about your team; who are you and where do you come from?

Our team is a family team, Roel Teeuwen is the captain of it. He is a professional artist and has been participating in snow sculpting competitions over the last fourty years. The second team member is Anne-Pie Teeuwen, his daughter. As from a young age on she has been there when Roel participated and learned to love the art and competition element. She is a professional photographer. The art'virus' also got hold of her fiance, Daniel Vis. He became enthousiastic about snow sculpting due to all the stories and pictures of Roel and Anne-Pie and is really looking forward to participate with them and bringing a lot of strength to the team.

Team History

How long have you worked together? What are your team’s greatest achievements?

As stated before Roel has been competing at symposia (wood, stone, snow and ice) for over his whole carier. Since a few years his daughter Anne-Pie is joining him and together they has been competing in China, Japan and Russia. Daniel is new to the world of snow sculpting but brings in a lot of enthousiasm and strength and is in that way a very good asset.

Last year, Roel and Anne-Pie won the first price in ice sculpting in Yakutsk, the year before that they have won the design price in China. In the years before that there where prices in Japan, Switzerland, China, etc.

About Snow Sculpting

How did you end up carving snow and what is best in snow sculpting?

For us snow sculpting is like playing, but in a very serious way. Its great to achieve a good design and a beautiful piece in so little time. It’s almost a race against time and a competition to one self. Achieving every time the (almost) impossible and to strive for perfection. Snow especially is a great material because the block always contains secrets that you have to work with. It’s not just making a design and carrying that out but its really working with the material. Snow is also great because it is so massive and so tender at the same time. An other great aspect about the competitions is the spirit of all the teams. The contact with the other artists and the competitive, but at the same time very friendly and open vibe makes it a one in a kind experience that we really really love.
