ESIKOTO goes Baltic Snow Call! Greetings from the ESIKOTO project´s voluntary team! Baltic Snow Call is approaching at a cracking pace and we are excited to be part of the event!

Who are we? The ESIKOTO project is a pre-integration development project in Northern Ostrobothnia region. The aim of the project is to organise and develop meaningful activities for asylum seekers and those who have been recently granted a resident permit, while promoting community affiliation and prevent institutionalization. The project seeks to work closely with voluntary sector (organizations and associations), both in organizing activities as well as in developing operational models.

The project has four affiliates: the Oulu Diakonissalaitoksen Säätiö, the Vuolle Setlementti ry, the Diakonia-ammattikorkeakoulu and Metsähallitus Parks and Wildlife Finland. The project area of operation includes Oulu, Kempele, Muhos, Pudasjärvi and Kuusamo.

What better way to meet people, socialise and share experience, than through voluntary work in events such as Baltic Snow Call?

We have been volunteering at various events for the past one and a half years. Voluntary work has been successful means in helping people to become members of the society, be part of the common good and to get involved. During this winter we are involved also in various other events such as Polar Bear Pitching, Tervahiihto Skiing event and Finice2018 – Ice Climbing European Cup Finals here in Oulu, Finland.

Our voluntary tasks have included traffic control, awarding prizes, managing cloakrooms, construction and demolition work, carrying fences, managing water stations at sports events, catering and others. Part of our team are many skilled handicraft volunteers, with background in carpentry, building or masonry. Our volunteer group is international with people from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Somalia and Finland. The group doesn’t lack humor or smiles! We do the work with positive attitude and in a good team spirit!

It´s awesome to be part of the Baltic Snow Call, promoting world peace, internationality and cultural diversity. We´re pretty sure this will be an unforgettable 3 days of volunteering at this snow sculpting event. ESIKOTO-project wishes everyone a sunny spring and awesome Baltic Snow Call contest! We also warmly welcome you to join our vibrant voluntary group!
