THE INTERNATIONAL SNOW SCULPTING CONTEST BALTIC SNOW CALL IS APPROACHING! A FESTIVAL OF ART AND SNOW IS CELEBRATED NEXT WEEK IN NALLIKARI 21.-25.2.2018

TOP PROFESSIONAL SNOW SCULPTORS IN NALLIKARI
BALTIC SNOW CALL 2018 is a snow sculpting contest for the Baltic countries and gathers top sculptors to battle for gold and glory in Finland and specifically in Oulu Nallikari 21.-25.2.2018. The contest is held as an invite-only contest and is a one-of-a-kind international snow sculpting contest held in Finland. The contest is also a part of the official event calendar of AISNG (The International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture).

The invited teams are arriving from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. A world-renowned team from China was invited instead of the Danish team. All of the teams represent the best of their respective countries and are renowned in various international snow sculpting events all around the worlds. Now is the time to enjoy excellent snow sculpting art in Nallikari!

RENOWNED SNOW SCULPTORS FACE OFF AT BALTIC SNOW CALL
The art director of the contest is Anna Koivukangas. Her team, Tuulispäät Snow Sculpting Team won the Finnish championship this year and are representing Finland in the Sapporo Snow Festival of 2019. The head of the contest, Janne Andberg will arrive to Baltic Snow Call almost directly from Sapporo, where he was representing Finland alongside his team Ragnarök SST. Ragnarök placed fourth in the Snow Sculpting Competition Sapporo Snow Festival 2018 event. The chairman of the contest’s judges is the acclaimed chairman of the international association of snow and ice sculpture Juhani Lillberg. The judges also include Antti Tenetz, an artistic mastermind and the provincial art laureate for bio art. One of the shining stars of the judges is Swedish Olympic medalist Ricky Sandberg, who has won the gold medal in snow sculpting in the Albertville Olympic Arts Festival in 1992. He has won awards in many significant international competitions around the world and is without a doubt a preeminent figure in the snow sculpting community.

A CELEBRATION OF LIGHT AND SNOW IN THE WINTRY SCULPTURE PARK
After the Saturday’s contest, the area is transformed into a unique wintry art exhibit. The enchanting Winter Art Park is illuminated in cooperation with the Lumo Light Festival. Winter Art Park is illuminated Saturday evening 21:30-24:00 and Sunday evening 18:00-21:00

The award ceremony for Baltic Snow Call is held Sunday 13:00 in the competition area. Three best teams are awarded. An all-time favorite air guitar star Nordic Thunder will perform during the ceremony.

KANSAINVÄLINEN LUMENVEISTOKILPAILU BALTIC SNOW CALL LÄHESTYY! ENSI VIIKOLLA 21.-25.2.2018 LUMEN JA TAITEEN JUHLAA NALLIKARISSA

LUMENVEISTON HUIPPUAMMATTILAISET OULUN NALLIKARIIN
BALTIC SNOW CALL 2018 on Itämeren maiden lumenveistokilpailu, joka kokoaa alueen huippuveistäjät mittelemään kullasta ja kunniasta Suomeen, Oulun Nallikariin 21.-25.2.2018. Mittelö järjestetään kutsukilpailuna ja on ainutlaatuinen Suomessa järjestettävä kansainvälinen lumenveistotapahtuma, joka on mukana myös kansainvälisen lumen- ja jäänveistonjärjestön (AISNG) virallisessa tapahtumakalenterissa.

Kutsutut joukkueet tulevat Suomesta, Ruotsista, Norjasta, Saksasta, Puolasta, Liettuasta, Latviasta, Virosta ja Venäjältä. Tanskan joukkueen tilalle kilpailuun kutsuttiin maailmalla mainetta saavuttanut Kiinan joukkue. Kaikki joukkueet edustavat oman maansa parhaimmistoa ja ovat ansioituneet kansainvälisissä lumenveistotapahtumissa ympäri maailmaa. Nyt on mahdollisuus nauttia maailmanluokan huippuveistäjien taiteesta Nallikarissa!

ARVOSTETUT LUMENVEISTON KÄRKINIMET KOHTAAVAT BALTIC SNOW CALLISSA
Kisassa taiteellisena johtajana toimii Anna Koivukangas, jonka tiimi Tuulispäät Snow Sculpting Team voitti Suomen mestaruuden tänä vuonna ja edustaa Suomea Sapporo Snow Festivaleilla 2019. Kilpailun johtaja Janne Andberg saapuu kisaan lähes suoraan Sapporosta, jossa hän edusti Suomea joukkueellaan Ragnarök SST. Ragnarök sijoittui Snow Sculpting Competition Sapporo Snow Festival 2018 -tapahtumassa sijalle neljä. Kisan tuomariston puheenjohtajana toimii kansainvälisen lumen- ja jääveistojärjestön puheenjohtaja, arvostettu Juhani Lillberg. Kisan tuomaristossa on mukana myös oululainen taiteen multipersoona, biotaiteen läänintaitelija Antti Tenetz. Kisan ehdotonta aatelia edustaa tuomaristossa istuva ruotsalainen olympiamitalisti Ricky Sandberg, joka on voittanut kultamitalin lumenveistossa Olympic Arts Festivaaleiilla Albertvillessä 1992. Hänet on palkittu useissa merkittävissä kansainvälisissä kisoissa ympäri maailmaa ja on ehdottomasti lumenveiston terävintä kärkeä.

TALVISESSA VEISTOSPUISTOSSA VALON JA LUMEN JUHLAA!
Lauantaina kisan jälkeen kisa-alue muuntautuu ainutlaatuiseksi talviseksi taidepuistoksi. Maaginen Winter Art Park valaistaan yhteistyössä Lumo Light Festivalin kanssa. Winter Art Park on valaistuna lauantai-iltana 21.30-24.00 sekä sunnuntai-iltana klo 18.00-21.00.

Baltic Snow Callin palkintojenjako pidetään sunnuntaina klo 13.00 kisa-alueella. Kolme parasta joukkuetta palkitaan. Palkintojen jaossa esiintyy kaikkien aikojen Ilmakitara-suosikki, Nordic Thunder.

THE TEAMS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SNOW SCULPTING COMPETITION BALTIC SNOW CALL, FEATURING WORLD FAMOUS SNOW SCULPTORS.

BALTIC SNOW CALL 2018 is a snow sculpting competition for Baltic sea countries. The competition brings together top sculptors from the region to battle over gold and glory in Nallikari, Oulu Finland 21.-25.2.2018. This one of a kind snow sculpting competition in Finland is an invitation-only –event and it's a part of the International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture’s (AISNG) official event calendar.

TOP PROFESSIONAL SNOW SCULPTORS TO NALLIKARI, OULU

Baltic Snow Call 2018 created a lot of interest all over the world right after its announcement. 10 teams from around the Baltic sea were invited to participate, but many other teams showed interest from almost every continent. According to the international event calendar, Baltic Snow Call is the region’s largest snow sculpting competition.

”The competition is unique and interest towards the event surprised also the arrangers. In addition to the invited countries, teams contacted our event from Mexico, USA, Thailand, and China. Nevertheless, we stuck to the original plan and this year’s participants, apart from one exception, are coming from the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea”Janne Andberg¸ head of the contest.

The invited teams are coming from: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. A world-renowned team from China was invited to team Denmark's place. All of the teams represent the top tier of their respective countries and are renowned in international competitions around the world.

”All of the teams are very skilled and include some of the world’s best snow sculptors. For example, the German group, Team Black Forest, has been sculpting together for over 14 years and they have won competitions for example at Lake Tahoe, USA, and Nayoro, Japan. They have also sculpted the world’s first interactive snow sculpture in Canada 2016.“, Janne Andberg explains, and also continues: “They are waiting excitedly for Baltic Snow Call, Finnish sauna, salty licorice and they hope to meet Finnish ice hockey players during their visit.”

The event, held in Nallikari, Oulu is sought after also within many top sculptors – the event marks the first international snow sculpting competition in Finland in decades. Each participating team is introduced to the event's website. The introductions include the team itself, their history, merits and why they chose Snow Call. On the page are also team introductions as well as pictures from previous sculptures.

INTERNATIONAL SNOW SCULPTING CONTEST BALTIC SNOW CALL TO NALLIKARI 21.-25.2.2018

Baltic Snow Call is a snow sculpting contest which brings top sculptors of Baltic Sea area to compete for gold and glory at Nallikari, Oulu Finland. BSC is an invitational contest; we select ten three-member teams with international sculpting merit. BSC is a unique winter event and part of official event calendar of International International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture (AISNG).

Event is organised by Ikitalvi Union of Snow & Ice Sculptors in co-operation with Nallikari Seaside and Vauhtipuisto. The sculpting site is located right next to Nallikari Holiday Village and Nallikari Winter Village. The contest is supevised by globally experienced professional sculptor Janne Andberg and Art Director of the event will be Anna Koivukangas, a sculptor from Oulu. Juhani Lillberg from AISNG will lead the contest jury and acts as a patron of Baltic Snow Call.

Baltic Snow Call begins by contest briefing on Wednesday and culminates to closure celebration on Saturday evening. The awards ceremony will be held at Sunday at the contest site.
